Early on Saturday morning, a caller contacted investigators to report the incident, after spotting the suspect in the northbound lanes of Route 242 near the intersection of Route 242 in Morganza.

Witnesses said that the driver was in a silver SUV - possibly a Toyota - and tossed at least eight or nine kittens from the vehicle.

One cat was found dead at the scene, though no others were located. Now, the sheriff's office is attempting to track down the person responsible for abusing and abandoning the felines.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.
